Day 1: What Off-Speed Is Really Trying to Do
One small skill. One game. One thing to remember.
Foundation
Watch regular and slower tosses and notice which arrives later. Work slowly first, then try the small game. A parent or coach can help.
The reason
The same comfortable stance can work for different toss speeds.
One cue
Stay athletic.
Keep it simple
- Stay athletic.
- Practice in a safe space with an adult and stop if form fades.
Keep this
Today I can practice what off-speed is really trying to do with control.
Before you go
Show or explain the best choice you made today. What will you try next time?
Ask after practice
Tell your adult: What went well? What will you try next time?
Ten-chance skill game
Watch regular and slower tosses and notice which arrives later. Try up to ten comfortable chances. Give yourself a point for each focused try or smart decision, even if the result is not perfect.
Bronze 4–6 · Silver 7–8 · Gold 9–10. A better score replaces your previous score, without stacking points.
Day 1 complete?
Mark complete after you try the lesson. You can change this later.
Practice safely
Practice with an adult, a clear hitting space, and age-appropriate equipment. Start with dry swings, a tee, or gentle toss. Stop if anything hurts.
If something hurts, stop and tell an adult. Keep throwing within your league’s rules and the player’s comfort.
