Day 2: Stance and Ready Position
One small skill. One game. One thing to remember.
The Swing
Feet a little wider than your shoulders. Knees soft, weight on the balls of your feet. Hands near your back shoulder, eyes level on the pitcher. Get ready as the pitcher starts. Softball: get ready when the pitcher starts her arm circle. Work slowly first, then try the small game. A parent or coach can help.
The reason
A good stance lets you see the ball and move fast.
One cue
Soft knees, eyes on the pitcher.
Keep it simple
- Soft knees, eyes on the pitcher.
- Practice in a safe space with an adult and stop if form fades.
Keep this
Today I can practice stance and ready position with control.
Before you go
Show or explain the best choice you made today. What will you try next time?
Ask after practice
Tell your adult: What went well? What will you try next time?
Ready Check
Take ten chances. Each time, an adult says “pitcher starts.” Get into your stance and freeze. Check feet, knees, weight, hands and eyes. Give yourself a point if all five are ready.
Bronze 4–6 · Silver 7–8 · Gold 9–10. A better score replaces your previous score, without stacking points.
Day 2 complete?
Mark complete after you try the lesson. You can change this later.
Practice safely
Practice with an adult, a clear hitting space, and age-appropriate equipment. Start with dry swings, a tee, or gentle toss. Stop if anything hurts.
If something hurts, stop and tell an adult. Keep throwing within your league’s rules and the player’s comfort.
