8U Baseball Practice Plan: fundamentals, stations & team games.
Keep balls soft, distances short, and teaching simple. Rotate often and measure smiles, attention and improvement—not just outs.
READY-TO-RUN SESSION
60-minute 8U practice.
Stations have a purpose, a simple cue and an easy way to scale difficulty. Get every player moving.
Animal runs, shuffle-stop games, toss-and-catch pairs.
Coach rolls soft balls to ready infielders; scoop, secure, smile.
Partners throw comfortably into large, safe target zones.
One protected tee lane; other players run base-path routes with a coach.
Each player names one thing they did well and one thing to try again.
Soft training balls, small cones, age-appropriate gloves, tees, safe bats, bases, water.
Adult supervision, positive feedback, hydration and spacing between live throwing/hitting areas. Stop practice if someone has pain.

Questions from 8U coaches
Should 8U practice include pitching?
Base the session on your league format. At coach-pitch or tee-ball ages, emphasize general throwing, catching and fun rather than adult-like pitching volume.
Can I print this practice plan?
Yes. Use the browser print button, or open the Coach’s Clipboard to customize the sport, duration and skill focus.
How do I adapt this for fastpitch softball?
Use a softball-sized field and ball appropriate for your division, a fastpitch-specific throwing and pitching coach, and your league’s rules. The softball practice guide offers an adapted example.
